STORMWATER UTILITY PROGRAMS & ACTIVITIES
Stormwater is rain or snow that falls on our roads, parking lots and roof tops. It picks up harmful bacteria from pet waste, oils, dirt and metals on its way to the nearest storm drain, creek, lake or Puget Sound. Stormwater facilities are designed to hold and even remove some of the harmful pollutants from the water before it travels back into our water ways.
Stormwater facilities COLLECT, CONVEY, TREAT and RELEASE stormwater through a variety of different methods. Below is a graphic that shows a few of the typical stormwater facilities that you might see in your neighborhood, including stormdrains, pipes, wet ponds and infiltration ponds, and what purpose they serve in managing stormwater.
City and Regionally Owned Stormwater Facilities are owned and maintained by the City of Lacey.
Privately Owned Stormwater Facilities are owned and maintained by private parties such as commercial businesses or Home Owner Associations.
