CITY OF LACEY 2010 STREET OVERLAY PROGRAM UNDERWAY
LACEY, WA, June 7, 2010: Construction crews mobilized this week to begin work on Lacey’s Street Overlay Program for 2010. Planned roadwork includes repairs to failed portions of asphalt followed by grinding and paving on sections of Yelm Highway SE, Rainier Road SE, 14th Avenue SE, Enterprise Drive NE, and 46th Avenue NE. Infrastructure work also includes stormwater improvements on Yelm Highway SE and Enterprise Drive NE, channelization changes on Yelm Highway SE, and selective pavement repair on Rainier Road SE, just south of the 67th Avenue roundabout. Road construction is scheduled to be complete by August 2010.
Although these roads will remain open to traffic during construction, delays and temporary road and lane closures should be expected. Every effort will be made to maintain access to side streets and driveways. However, during paving, access will be limited for short periods until the asphalt has been placed, compacted, and cooled in front of each side street and driveway. The public is asked to plan accordingly and to work with flaggers for access. Businesses and residents will receive a notice at least 48 hours in advance of the paving operations if their driveway access is on a street that will be paved, or when a resident’s or a business’s primary access is impacted.
The City of Lacey awarded the 2010 Street Overlay Program to Lakeside Industries of Lacey, Washington, in the amount of $919,998. Since the program started in 2001, the average rating of Lacey streets, on a scale of one to 100 with 100 being the best, improved from 64 in 2001 to 84 in 2009. Currently, 93% of the City’s street network is rated in good or very good condition based on Washington State guidelines for evaluating street surfaces.
Updated advisories will be posted on the Lacey’s official website at www.ci.lacey.wa.us. For more information about the 2010 Street Overlay Program, the public may call Lacey Public Works at (360) 491-5600.
