LACEY APPOINTS NEW PARKS AND RECREATION DIRECTOR
LACEY, WA, October 10, 2016: Today, City Manager Scott Spence announced the appointment of Jennifer Burbidge as the new City of Lacey Parks and Recreation Director. The appointment follows a comprehensive selection process to succeed Lori Flemm, a well-regarded leader in the parks profession who served the City for seven years.
“Jennifer brings experience and passion to build upon Lacey’s Parks and Recreation Department’s outstanding reputation,” said Spence. “Our community takes pride in our parks and recreational programs–it’s one of the key features that puts Lacey on the map. Jennifer has all the qualities and capabilities the City of Lacey wants in its next Director of Parks and Recreation.”
Most recently, Burbidge was the Southwest Quadrant Supervisor for Metro Parks Tacoma where she managed the STAR Center with a $1.2 million operating budget. The center, located on the South End Recreation and Activities (SERA) Campus, serves over 600 people daily and includes arts, sports, fitness, events, aquatics, and youth-development programs. SERA Campus, a partnership between Metro Parks Tacoma, Boys & Girls Clubs of South Puget Sound, and Tacoma Public Schools, provides indoor and outdoor park and recreation opportunities for South Tacoma residents and also draws the regional community.
Burbidge also served several communities in the parks and recreation field, including the cities of Kirkland, Federal Way, Anacortes, and Olympia. While attending Brigham Young University, she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation Management and Administration.
As the new City of Lacey Parks and Recreation Director, Burbidge will manage a department with an approximately $2.6 million operating budget, over 1,200 developed and undeveloped park acres, and more than 1,100 recreation classes a year. Additionally, she will oversee several facilities, including the Community Center, the Lacey Museum, and the world-class Regional Athletic Complex.
