WATERLINE CLEANING SCHEDULED FOR CENTRAL BUSINESS DISTRICT
LACEY, WA, October 5, 2016: Lacey Water Utility crews will clean the water distribution lines in the Central Business District (CBD; map) October 16-28, 2016, between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., nightly. Unidirectional flushing, the cleaning process, is a preventative maintenance practice that improves water quality by removing sediment and mineral build-up from the water lines.
Water crews will clean the inside of the waterlines in the CBD by opening fire hydrants to create high water flows in the lines. During flushing, you may notice large volumes of water running down streets and into storm drains. Signs will be posted in areas where crews are working.
During flushing, water customers may also notice a change in water pressure. Coloring or sediment can also appear in the water during, and shortly after, flushing. Lacey water-quality personnel recommend checking to ensure the water runs clear before using it for drinking, cooking, or washing clothes. If coloring or sediment is present, it can be removed by letting the water run until clear. Water pressure and clarity should return to normal soon after flushing is completed.
If you have any questions or experience water-quality problems that do not clear up in a short period of time, please call Lacey Public Works at 360-491-5644 during the day or 360-704-2740 for after-hour emergencies.
