LACEY SEEKS PUBLIC COMMENT ON DRAFT LOW IMPACT DEVELOPMENT CODE REVISIONS AND 2016 STORMWATER DESIGN MANUAL
LACEY, WA, July 27, 2016: The City of Lacey invites public comment on its draft Code Revisions for Low Impact Development (LID) and draft 2016 Stormwater Design Manual (SDM). The comment period includes an open house on Tuesday, August 9, 2016, from 6 - 8 p.m. and ends with a public hearing on Tuesday, August 16, 2016, at 7 p.m. Both events will take place at Lacey City Hall, 420 College St. S.E. Please provide comment by Wednesday, August 10, 2016.
Low Impact Development
LID is a land development approach that strives to mimic natural processes for stormwater management to protect water quality. The NPDES Phase II Municipal Stormwater Permit, administered by the Washington State Department of Ecology, requires the City of Lacey - and many other Western Washington jurisdictions - to revise local development codes and stormwater regulations by December 31, 2016, to make LID the “preferred and commonly used approach to site development.” The code revisions promote low-impact development and remove barriers to LID implementation in the Lacey Municipal Code.

Stormwater Design Manual
The 2016 SDM provides the criteria for design and maintenance of LID practices. The 2016 SDM also updates Lacey’s drainage regulations to be as protective of water resources as the Department of Ecology’s latest Stormwater Management Manual for Western Washington.
