LACEY DEPUTY MAYOR CYNTHIA PRATT RE-APPOINTED TO NLC’S SMALL CITIES COUNCIL
LACEY, WA, February 2, 2015: Lacey Deputy Mayor Cynthia Pratt has been re-appointed to the National League of Cities (NLC) 2015 Small Cities Council Steering Committee. The Small Cities Council Steering Committee set the pace for the full Small Cities Council and work with NLC to insure small cities are a part of any legislative/advocacy agenda items.
The Small Cities Council is made up of elected or appointed officials from communities less than 50,000 in population. The Council works to create visibility for small cities and to ensure that the interests of these communities are reflected in NLC's policies and programs; and also provides a forum for sharing ideas and best practices among smaller communities and serves as NLC’s voice for small cities. The appointment was announced by NLC President Ralph Becker, Mayor, Salt Lake City, Utah.
As a member of the committee, Deputy Mayor Pratt will play a role in forming NLC’s policy positions and advocating on behalf of America’s cities and towns before Congress, with the Administration and at home. Issues covered by the council include economic development, transportation and funding, sustainability, education, immigration, housing and neighborhood concerns.
The chair of this year’s Small Cities Council is Joe Shumway, Councilmember, Laramie, Wyoming. Serving as this year’s first vice chair is Silke Pope, Councilmember, Greenbelt, Maryland and serving as second vice chair is Rusty Johnson, Commissioner, Ocoee, Florida.
