CONSTRUCTION TO BEGIN ON CHAMBERS LAKE STORMWATER TREATMENT FACILITY
LACEY, WA, August 1, 2014: After a series of public meetings and workshops with the Planning
Commission and City Council, construction is set to begin the week of August 4, 2014 on a stormwater treatment facility, located at 2750 Lakeview Drive SE, at Chambers Lake in Lacey.
The Chambers Lake Stormwater Treatment Facility site will treat stormwater flows from College Street
and surrounding neighborhoods. The four-celled stormwater treatment facility, stormwater utilities, and
sanitary sewer replacement will improve the water quality of Little Chambers Lake. It will also provide
the opportunity to enhance its shoreline by providing habitat, open space, and new wetland-specific
plantings. A paved pedestrian trail will also be provided through the city-owned 7-acre site.
The contractor will begin by clearing and excavating the site. The proposed haul route for material
removed is south on College Street via 29th Avenue SE, and west on Yelm Highway SE to the eventual disposal site. The proposed return route may vary but will include south on Golf Club Road SE to access the north end of the site.
Following preparation of the site, additional work will occur through the spring. This includes plantings
in the constructed wetlands and paving of a pedestrian trail.
This project is partially funded through a $1 million grant from the Washington State Department of
Ecology. The construction contract was awarded to Active Construction, Inc. of Tacoma and is expected to last through June 2015.
Public comment and testimony contributed to the final outcome and design of the project. For more
