LACEY TO HOLD PUBLIC MEETING ON PROPOSED STORMWATER RATE CHANGES
LACEY, WA, October 15, 2013: Lacey stormwater utility customers are invited to participate in a public meeting and open house on Tuesday, October 22, 2013 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. to learn about proposed changes to stormwater rates. The public meeting will be held at Lacey City Hall, 420 College Street SE, in Lacey.
Attendees are invited to visit with stormwater utility staff starting at 6:00 p.m., with a presentation to occur promptly at 6:30 p.m. Staff will be available after the presentation to answer additional questions.
The monthly single-family residential stormwater bill in Lacey is currently $7.36. The current proposal is to gradually increase rates over the next 6 years, starting January 1, 2014. For a typical resident within the city limits of Lacey, the increase to the monthly bill would be $.67 in 2014. Similar increases are proposed each year through 2019. By 2019, a typical resident within the city limits of Lacey will pay a monthly stormwater fee of $11.36.
Multi-family and commercial properties are proposed to experience the same proportionate increases, which are currently, and will remain, based on the percent of impervious surface on the parcel. Impervious surfaces include surfaces that do not allow water to pass directly through, such as parking areas, driveways, and rooftops.
Stormwater utility fees are collected by the stormwater utility from all developed parcels within Lacey’s city limits. Stormwater rates in Lacey are determined by balancing the utility’s anticipated costs for capital improvements and operation and maintenance needs with the expected number of customers. These fees are used to plan, construct, improve, operate, and maintain an extensive system of stormwater facilities located throughout our community.
There are many other public services provided by Lacey’s stormwater utility.
