LACEY COUNCIL MEMBER ANDY RYDER APPOINTED TO NATIONAL LEAGUE OF CITIES’ COMMITTEES
LACEY, WA, January 24, 2013: Lacey Council Member Andy Ryder has been appointed to two key committees of the National League of Cities (NLC) for 2013: the Military Communities Council (MCC) and re-appointment to the Transportation Infrastructure and Services Steering Committee. The appointments were announced by NLC President Marie Lopez Rogers, Mayor, Avondale, Arizona.
The MCC is a group of elected and municipal officials from municipalities that host or are in close proximity to a military installation. The Council’s objectives are to assist cities, NLC and state municipal leagues in gathering, sharing and analyzing information about opportunities, issues, and policies of interest to military communities. It also serves to foster a spirit of cooperation between military installations and municipal governments.
The 2013 chair of the Military Communities Council is Thomas Reardon, Councilmember, Sierra Vista, AZ. This year’s vice chairs are Arturo Pecos, City Commissioner, Kingsville, TX and Martha Sue Hall, Councilmember, Albemarle, NC.
The Transportation Infrastructure and Services Steering Committee has the lead responsibility for developing NLC federal policy positions on issues involving transportation, including planning, funding, safety and security of public transit, streets and highways, aviation, railroads and ports. The chair of this year’s Transportation Infrastructure & Services Committee is Ron Roberts, Mayor, Temecula, CA. Serving as this year’s vice chairs are Patsy Kinsey, Councilmember, Charlotte, NC and Mary McComber, Councilmember, Oak Park Heights, MN.
