LACEY APPOINTS NEW PUBLIC AFFAIRS AND HUMAN RESOURCES DIRECTOR
LACEY, WA, August 15, 2012: City Manager Scott Spence announced today the appointment of Liz Gotelli as the new Public Affairs and Human Resources Director for the City of Lacey. The appointment follows a comprehensive selection process to succeed Merri Lannoye, who is retiring as Lacey’s Human Resources Director after 26 years of public service with the city.
“Liz exemplifies the broad qualities the city was looking for in its new director,” said Spence. “Her demonstrated experience and leadership in municipal government operations and community relations will serve Lacey extremely well.”
Since 2004, Gotelli has served as the Human Resources Director for the City of Vancouver, Washington, where she was responsible for employee and labor relations, recruitment, benefit administration, and staff development. Prior to being named director, she acted as interim director, and served as manager of the city’s Procurement Services Department, overseeing $32,000,000 in contracted goods and services. She also served as an analyst in the city’s Public Works and Capital Budget offices.
Prior to working in Vancouver, she was a management analyst for the Clark County Public Works Department, as well as a housing planner in the county’s Community Services Office.
Gotelli has a Master’s in Urban Planning and a Master’s of Science in Public Affairs from the University of Oregon, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from the University of California-Berkeley. She is member of the National Public Employer Relations Association, the International Public Management Association for Human Resources, and the Society for Human Resources Management. Her first day with the City of Lacey will be September 24.
The Public Affairs and Human Resources Director is responsible for managing the city’s public affairs and human resources functions, serving as a member of the executive team and reporting directly to the City Manager. Seven full-time employees assist the director in carrying out responsibilities of the city’s employee recruitment, training, and compensation programs; risk management and safety initiatives; public information and outreach programs; citizen assistance efforts; and intergovernmental and legislative relations activities.
