CITY OF LACEY INVITES PUBLIC INPUT ON LACEY SENIOR CENTER EXPANSION DESIGN
LACEY, WA, November 1, 2011: The City of Lacey invites citizens to provide input on the proposed design of a 5,400-square-foot addition to the Lacey Senior Center building. An open house event will be held on Wednesday, November 16, 2011, from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m., at the Lacey Senior Center, 6757 Pacific Ave SE. Project designs will be reviewed by BLRB Architects of Tacoma, WA, at 1:00 p.m. Public input is important in the design of this community project, so please plan to attend.
Lunch will be served from 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. — available at a reduced cost to senior citizens. The lunch menu includes meat loaf, mashed potatoes, green salad, bread roll, and fruit. Lunch prices are $5.60 for people under 60-years old and $3.00 for those 60 and above.
The senior center building, which opened at its current location in Woodland Creek Community Park in 2003, has experienced dramatic increases in demand — from 257 senior users during the first year of operation to nearly 1,700 patrons in 2010. The City of Lacey was awarded $1 million in federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding for a major expansion of the facility. The proposed expansion will double the size of the current 5,000-square-foot facility, increasing capacity of the kitchen, dining and multi-purpose rooms, and adding space for senior health, education and other services.
Ground breaking is scheduled for May 2012, with construction completion in June 2013. Senior Services for South Sound oversees day-to-day operation of the current center and will continue in this capacity in the expanded facility. For questions about programs offered at the Lacey Senior Center, please call (360) 407-3967.
The senior center building designs will remain on display, for review and comment, at the Lacey Senior Center from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 17 and Friday, November 18, for those who are unable to attend the open house. Regular updates for this project will be posted on the City of Lacey website at www.ci.lacey.wa.us/senior-center-expansion.
