UTILITY WORK SCHEDULED ON MARTIN WAY EAST
LACEY, WA, March 11, 2011: Beginning Monday, March 14, 2011, traffic delays are expected on Martin Way E between Neil Street NE and School Street SE due to scheduled utility work. Construction crews will install a new 16-inch water line approximately 2,350 feet in length to improve the overall distribution of water within the system. Work also includes paving and striping. Crews will work between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Utility work is expected to continue through the end of May.
During construction, two-way traffic will be maintained. However, delays and temporary lane closures should be expected. Installation will start at Neil Street NE and continue eastward. In areas of work, westbound lanes will be reduced to one lane and the adjacent bike lane will be closed. Every effort will be made to maintain access to side streets and driveways. Bus service will continue at normally scheduled stops. The public is asked to plan extra time to travel through this area and to use alternate routes when possible.
The City of Lacey awarded a contract to 3 Kings Environmental, Inc., of Battle Ground, Washington. The construction contract cost is $557,020. This improvement is funded by the City's water capital fund. Revenues in this fund come from general facilities charges and water service charges. This project will provide transmission of water from areas with higher water availability and improve the overall efficiency of the water system, especially during periods of peak usage.
Construction updates will be posted on Lacey’s official website at www.ci.lacey.wa.us, under the Public Works Department page. For more information about the project, please call (360) 491-5600.
