MULLEN ROAD CONSTRUCTION PROJECT: TRAFFIC ADVISORY
LACEY, WA, August 27, 2010: Beginning Monday, August 30, construction crews will install the final lift of asphalt at the intersection of College Street SE and 37th Avenue SE. Paving will occur between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. with work scheduled to be complete by Friday, September 3, unless delayed by weather. This intersection improvement is part of the overall work necessary to complete a new city roadway, the extension of Mullen Road SE between Ruddell Road SE and College Street SE.
Although College Street SE and 37th Avenue SE will remain open to traffic during construction, delays and temporary road and lane closures should be expected. Every effort will be made to maintain access to side streets and driveways. However, during paving, access will be limited for short periods until the asphalt has been placed, compacted, and cooled in front of each side street and driveway. The public is asked to plan extra time to travel through this area and to use alternate routes when possible.
The Mullen Road Construction Project will provide an important east-west connection with a center median and turn lanes, bike lanes, sidewalks, planter strips, and street lighting. The project also includes the installation of a water main, a reclaimed water main, and signal modifications at College Street SE and at Ruddell Road SE. Total project cost including right-of-way, design, and construction is $3.8 million. City of Lacey awarded a contract to Active Construction, Inc., of Puyallup, Washington, in the amount of $2.8 million to construct the road. Funding for the project was made possible by grant funding from the Transportation Improvement Board ($1.7 million), LOTT ($.5 million), and the City of Lacey ($1.6 million).
Updated advisories will be posted on Lacey’s official website at www.ci.lacey.wa.us. For more information about the Mullen Road Construction Project, please call (360) 491-5600.
