PUBLIC EDUCATION
Lacey’s residents are among the highest-educated in the Puget Sound region. Sixty-six percent of our citizens over the age of 25 are in or have attended college, and 42 percent of those hold at least one college degree.
North Thurston Public Schools, which consistently rank among the highest academic attainment levels in Washington State, provide award-winning educational services to 14,000 students within Lacey and its surrounding residential suburbs. More than 1,700 dedicated professional educators and support personnel — and nearly 2,000 community-minded volunteers — enrich the educational experiences of all district students.
Residents are also served by a number of highly-regarded public colleges and universities. Within the city, South Puget Sound Community College will soon break ground on a new campus in the northeast area's Hawks Prairie District. And The Evergreen State College, a nationally-recognized 4-year liberal arts institution, is located approximately 10 minutes from Lacey on the shores of picturesque Eld Inlet.
