The City of Lacey celebrates the thirteenth anniversary of its Alternative Energy Fair. What began as a chance to bring electric car competition to Lacey in 1998 has now become a fair offering the public a chance to explore options in alternative energy for their vehicles, homes and more. Spectators will still enjoy the Lacey Grand Prix electric car competition where low-power electric vehicles participate in a closed course endurance competition. Also, they will have the opportunity to learn about Alternative Fuel options at the information booths and view a variety of display vehicles that feature alterative fuel.

Last year, the event was expanded to include information and displays showcasing other, non-vehicular, energy alternatives like solar electric and hot water generation. High efficiency construction techniques and appliances will be featured. This expansion fits nicely with the goals of Lacey as a Green City. The City of Lacey uses green power (renewable) for all city facilities.

Lacey Grand Prix
This Electrathon America sanctioned event is an endurance competition for low powered, driver-carrying, electric vehicles. Most are made by high school students and rely on bicycle and motorcycle components.

Lacey MPG Rally
See how you stack up economically with other drivers. How does the actual mileage you get in your car compare to the EPA ratings? Join the MPG Rally and find out! This NEW event will take place during the Alternative Energy Fair Saturday, May 2, 2009 and participants will drive a pre-selected course starting and finishing at Huntamer Park in their car returning to compare results with other ‘competitors’. Information will be available that will help all drivers and the public learn what they can do to save gas and get better ‘mpg’ in their own vehicles.
