MPG Rally Registration Form

*

With gas prices these days, how would you like to find out how to increase the mileage of your current vehicle by 25 to 50 percent without spending a penny? The Lacey Alternative Energy Fair is hosting a miles-per-gallon rally on May 3rd. The idea behind an MPG rally is to demonstrate to, and teach, the interested public about how capable their existing vehicle is in getting better mileage. There are some technological modifications that can net a small increase in mileage, but largest improvements actually are in modifying the techniques and driving skills of the driver.  The object of the rally is to successfully complete the course within a defined timeframe and with reasonable accuracy, account for the amount of fuel used in completing the course.  At the finish, a comparison will be posted of the vehicles combined EPA rating and the mileage the driver achieved while driving the course.  It’s not a competitive event, there are no prizes for top mileage figures because it’s run on the honor system.  You can bet however, that the self proclaimed mileage geeks will be competing among themselves and posting some very impressive mileage figures.  There will also be an educational display where you can learn the techniques that top participants use.  The Lacey Alternative Energy Fair is Saturday, May 3, 9am-3pm at Huntamer Park (7th & Woodland Sq. Lp).  For more information, contact Lacey Parks & Recreation Dept, 360-491-0857.

The object of the rally is to successfully complete a set course of about 100 miles within a defined timeframe, and account for the amount of fuel used in completing the course with reasonable accuracy. Participants will compare their achieved mileage to the combined EPA figures for their year, make, model, trim level vehicle as listed on the fueleconomy.gov website. Participants will be ranked according to % above/below their respective combined EPA rating. Vehicles that do not have EPA ratings listed will be listed on the results but not ranked. The course will start and finish at the fair.

Rules:

  1. Vehicles will fill up prior to the rally starting line using a commercial fueling station, ending the fill at the first ‘click’ of the nozzle.
  2. Starting odometer mileage will be recorded on each vehicle prior to starting the course.
  3. Participants will start at 30 second intervals and be due in on their interval, plus or minus a set amount of time to account for the variability of traffic signals, road conditions, etc.
  4. Vehicles will complete the entire course within the alloted time window.
  5. Vehicles will fill up within 1 mile of the rally finish line using a commercial fueling station, ending the fill at the first ‘click’ of the nozzle.
  6. Fueling receipts will be presented with a date/time/fuel quantity print out at the finish line.
  7. Ending odometer mileage will be recorded on each vehicle at the finish line.

Competition: The rally is a non-competitive event held on public roads. There will be no prizes to reduce the incentive to cheat, as the fill-ups and mileage will be reported on the honor system.
