LACEY MUNICIPAL CODE
Codification Process
| The City Clerk’s Office is responsible for codification of ordinances
adopted by the Lacey City Council that change the laws in the Lacey
Municipal Code (LMC). Ordinances are laws, rules and regulations that
govern City operations. Codification is the formal process of adding an
ordinance to the Lacey Municipal Code (LMC) in an organized outline of
Titles, Chapters, and Sections. |
Steps to Codify an Ordinance
- An ordinance is passed by the Lacey City Council.
- The ordinance is published on the following Monday in the local newspaper, and becomes effective five days after publication.
- Revisions are made to amend, repeal, or add new sections to the LMC.
- The LMC is generally codified within two weeks after the effective date of each ordinance.
Copies of ordinances passed by the Lacey City Council can be requested by contacting the City Clerk’s Office at (360) 438-2625 or by submitting a public records request at
cityclerk@ci.lacey.wa.us.
Using the Lacey Municipal Code
The outline of the LMC is divided into Titles, Chapters, and Sections:
- Titles 1 through 16 are by subject
- Chapters divide the Titles into more specific categories
- Sections list the individual laws, rules and regulations
- The information in parenthesis at the end of each Section indicates, in descending order, ordinances that have affected that Section of the code, i.e. (Ord. 1310 §3, 2008; Ord. 1137 §1, 2000; Ord. 1124 §5, 2000; Ord. 1024 §3, 1995).
The ordinance listing (Ord. 1310 §3, 2008) indicates the following:
- Ord. is the ordinance number
- § is the Section number of the ordinance
- 2008 is the year the ordinance was adopted
The Disposition of Ordinances Table lists each ordinance by number, date adopted, and description. The Index lists topics alphabetically by major topics and subtopics.
