Military Partnerships

Located just minutes from Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM), the largest military installation in the western U.S., the Lacey community has long recognized the value that JBLM brings to the region. Many soldiers and families call Lacey their home.

“Military families are our neighbors, our customers, colleagues, and friends. We must continue to honor and build upon our relationship,” stated Mayor Tom Nelson.

The city embraces partnerships with the military community through the Joint Base Lewis-McChord Community Connections Program, the Lacey subchapter of AUSA, and the South Sound Military & Communities Partnership. Local service clubs host community events to celebrate the many assets that military families bring to the community.

3-2 Stryker Brigade Deployment

On November 17, 2011, Mayor Tom Nelson proclaimed Lacey’s support and gratitude to the 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team of the 2nd Infantry Division (3-2 SBCT)—bidding the soldiers a successful mission and a safe return from deployment to Afghanistan.

Proclamation

The 3-2 SBCT will deploy about 3,200 soldiers starting late November 2011, with the last units deploying as late as April 2012.  The soldiers will be deploying in support of “Operation Enduring Freedom” for a 12-month tour.  Learn more »
