VOLUNTEER POSITIONS

The Lacey Police Department is supported by a core group of dedicated volunteers consisting of the Explorer Post, Reserve Officers, and Senior Patrol.  Volunteers alone provided over 10,000 hours to the community in support of Lacey's public safety activities.  If you are interested in a future career in law enforcement, or would like to donate your time and talents in support of your community, you should consider the following:

Police Explorer:

For young men and women who are interested in careers in the field of law enforcement, this program offers training, activities, and invaluable experience while assisting the Lacey Police Department.  If you are  between the ages of 15 1/2 and 21, and are interested in joining the Police Explorers, please contact Officer Jimmy Williams, Officer Rich Broeker or Officer Napolean Parker at (360) 459-4333 for more information.

Reserve Officer:

Lacey Police Reserve Officers are commissioned volunteers who supplement the patrol division and represent the department at several events throughout the year.  A reserve officer must be at least 21 years of age and pass the same rigorous application process as our full-time police officers. They must successfully complete a physical agility test, oral panel interview, a written and verbal psychological evaluation, a polygraph test as well as an extensive background investigation.  Once selected, they must complete a minimum of 220 hours at the Reserve Police Academy. Each reserve officer is required to volunteer and maintain certification in vital critical skills such as firearms qualifications, defensive tactics and emergency vehicle operations. If you are interested in becoming a Lacey Reserve Officer, please contact Officer Miguel Stansberry or Officer Ken Westphal at (360) 459-4333, or check Volunteer Opportunities with the City of Lacey.

Senior Patrol:

The Lacey Senior Patrol are uniformed volunteers that are an essential part of the city's Crime Prevention Unit.  Senior Patrol volunteers provide vacation house checks, support community events, supervise low risk inmates who pick up litter and clean up graffiti, patrol portions of city trails, and issue tickets for handicap parking violations.  If you are interested in joining the Senior Patrol, please contact Crime Prevention Officer Sean Bell at (360) 459-4333.  You can also visit Volunteer Opportunities for more details about the position.  Applications can be obtained at the Human Resources Department at Lacey City Hall (420 College St SE).
