VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Senior Patrol

The Lacey Senior Patrol Unit consists of a team of 25 Senior Patrol (SP) Officers.  Both men and women who are retired or semi-retired and donate their time and energies as volunteers. Their ages vary, their professional and  life experiences vary, but their dedication to serving the City of Lacey is constant. They perform various tasks and duties under the direction of Lacey Police Crime Prevention Officer Sean Bell, Administration Supervisor Lieutenant Chris Ward and Chief of Police Dusty Pierpoint. Each Senior Patrol Officer is a sworn Lacey Police Officer holding a limited commission.

Senior Patrol Officers assist the Lacey Police Department by performing crime prevention services, patrol duties, and other tasks as described below. This allows Lacey Police Department's fully commissioned officers to concentrate more on preserving the peace and protecting the rights and properties of citizens in the Lacey community. Lacey Senior Patrol Officers are also able to undertake projects, which are not considered feasible, due to lack of personnel or financial resources. Lacey Senior Patrol Officers add extra eyes, ears, and helping hands while on patrol throughout the Lacey Community, assisting Lacey Patrol Officers.

The duties/tasks performed by Lacey Senior Patrol Officers are as follows:

  • House Checks
  • Disabled Parking Monitoring & Enforcement
  • Litter Pick-up
  • Graffiti Clean-up
  • General Patrol
  • Garage Sale Monitoring
  • On-street Parking Monitoring & Enforcement

  • Speed Watch
  • Court Runs
  • Traffic Control
  • Chehalis Western Trail Patrol
  • Notice/Flyer Distribution
  • False Alarm Program
  • Other Tasks

    • 7,685 volunteer hours, saving $166,000 to the Lacey Police Department and the City of Lacey
    • 7,958 House Checks
