VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Community Projects

If you are with a Boy or Girl Scout Troop, service organization, school, church, or other group that wants to perform community service and needs a list of projects then look no further!  Following is a comprehensive list of projects currently offered by the city for community volunteers to perform.  Each project lists the department and person for you to contact in order to proceed.





Lake Lois Habitat Reserve Environmental Restoration

Description:
Join volunteers and staff from the Lacey Parks and Recreation Department one Saturday a month at the Lake Lois Habitat Reserve to remove invasive plants that are choking out the native plant understory in the reserve.

Location:
Lake Lois Habitat Reserve is located north of Pacific Avenue SE, and west of Lake Lois Road SE.  Parking is available at Woodland Creek Community Park, 6729 Pacific Avenue SE.  Walk across Pacific Avenue SE in the crosswalk at the Lake Lois Rd SE intersection.

Date(s):

Saturday, May 19, 2012, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

 


Group size:
Individuals, families, or groups are welcome.  Groups are encouraged to pre-register so that enough tools are available.  Registration Form

Age restriction:
Volunteers under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult.

Equipment:
All volunteers should wear appropriate clothing such as work gloves, sturdy shoes or boots, and bring rain gear, if needed.  Volunteers are also encouraged to bring their own water; the parks department will provide the necessary tools.

Lacey Activities Coalition for Teens (Lacey A.C.T.)
 Description:
Lacey Activities Coalition for Teens (A.C.T.) nights provide 7th and 8th grade students in the North Thurston Public School district safe and fun activities on two Friday evenings per month.  About 600 students attend each event. 
 Location:
Rotating schedule among Chinook, Komachin and Nisqually Middle Schools
 Date(s):
Friday evenings scheduled throughout the school year.
 Group size:
Individuals to monitor single or multiple evening events. Approximately 200 adults and 30 teens assist with A.C.T. events throughout the school year.
 Age restriction:
No minimum age requirement.
