4216 Police Officer - Entry Level
Salary: $60,839 (2012 annual base) plus a generous benefit package
Status: Full-time; This is a Police Guild represented position.

THE POSITION
Officers are responsible for prevention of crime, apprehension of
criminals, and the general enforcement of laws and ordinances.
Applicants must demonstrate the ability to act decisively and without
direct supervision in a number of situations, including situations
involving an element of personal danger. The City of Lacey has a full
service Police Department with 57 Commissioned Officers, 3 Community
Service Officers and 12 civilian personnel that are assigned to
specialized functions such as:
- Field Training Program
- Traffic Unit
- Detectives
- Crime Prevention
- School Resource (SRO)
- Tactical Unit
- Community Policing
- Crime Stoppers
- Interlocal Drug Unit
- Bike Patrol
- Canine Unit
QUALIFICATIONS
The qualified applicant will have/be:
- A U.S. Citizen (proof required at time of appointment)
- High school graduate/GED
- 21 years of age at time of appointment
- Possess a valid Washington State driver's license at appointment
- Ability to read, write and speak the English language
- Ability to pass a thorough background investigation including
driving record, work history, credit history, conviction/arrest record,
reference check and drug history
- No previous experience required
COMPENSATION
- Salary: $60,839 to start (2012 annual base salary)

- Officers do not pay into social security and receive the City's contribution, which is added to base salary.
APPLICATION/EXAMINATION PROCESS

website and follow their procedure for Police Officer testing. You will
be able to complete your application on-line and select a testing date
that is convenient for you. Your passing test score will be submitted to
us. After receiving your score, we will contact you with instructions
on how to proceed to the next phase of the hiring process.
An
Eligibility List is established based on the combined results of the
written and oral examinations. Successful candidates will be selected
from the eligibility list (numerically) on an as-needed basis.
Candidates must undergo a thorough background investigation, polygraph,
psychological, and medical examination, prior to actual appointment as a
condition of employment. Appointed Officers will attend the Washington
State Criminal Justice Training Commission (WSCJTC) Police Academy in
Burien for five (5) months. The recruit will receive pay and benefits
while in attendance at the Academy. Police Officers must maintain a
level of physical fitness necessary to perform their duties.
