ABOUT US
The Community and Economic Development Department is responsible for the stewardship of community standards as established by the Lacey Planning Commission and the Lacey City Council. Community standards are reflected in land-use policies, building codes, and property-maintenance regulations. Community and Economic Development Department staff assists policy makers by gathering information, researching market trends, and facilitating public input that ultimately shapes and guides the City of Lacey's future development.
The Community and Economic Development Department is broken into three divisions:
Planning Division
The Planning Division has two components, Long-Range Planning and Current Planning. Long-Range Planning works with the Lacey Planning Commission and Lacey City Council to develop the various community plans and policies and development codes. Current Planning facilitates the land-use permitting process implementing the community plans and development codes. The Planning Division also provides support services to the City of Lacey Hearings Examiner. A primary responsibility of the Planning Division is the City's Comprehensive Land Use Plan. The Comprehensive Land Use Plan provides strategic vision for the City of Lacey. Under the State Growth Management Act (GMA), the Comprehensive Land Use Plan must look at a minimum 20-year planning horizon.
Building Division
The Building Division ensures the buildings built in our community are safe, sanitary, accessible, and compliant with State and City of Lacey Building and Fire Codes. The Building Division facilitates the building permit application and inspection process.
Code Enforcement Division
The
Code Enforcement Division works with our citizens, neighborhoods, and business community to ensure housing, structures, and properties within the community are safe and maintained to community standards and that zoning provisions for land use, signage, and business registration are met.
