12:00 – 12:10 p.m.
Chair, Mary Dean, Andy Ryder
Greg Cuoio, Scott Spence, Troy Woo, Carol Litten Request for Use of Washington Center
Carol Litten, City Clerk, presented the Committee with a request from the Rotary Clubs of Thurston County to use one of Lacey’s free days at the Washington Center for a fundraiser in 2011.
Councilmember Ryder and Dean both disclosed they are members of local area Rotary Clubs. They noted, however, since this request would benefit a non-profit organization in support of community services, they do not perceive a conflict of interest.
Through its contractual agreement with the Washington Center, the City has the use of the Washington Center twice a year at no additional charge. According to Council policy, the City can allocate one of its free days to a non-profit organization for fundraising efforts. The second day is normally reserved for City use, unless the City does not intend to use the second day in that calendar year. The Council has already allocated one “free” day in 2011 to Entertainment Explosion.
Before allocating the second day, Mary inquired whether the City plans on using the Washington Center in 2011 for any City events. Greg Cuoio, City Manager, noted the City could potentially use one of the days in the near future to sponsor a fundraiser for the Train Depot Project. However, to his knowledge, nothing is planned for 2011. Committee members suggested tentatively reserving one of the days in 2012 for City use. Councilmember Ryder moved to recommend to the full Council the approval of the request from the Rotary Clubs of Thurston County to use Lacey’s second free day at the Washington Center for a fundraiser in 2011. Councilmember Dean seconded. Motion carried.
