BOARDS & COMMISSIONS
How to apply to serve as a Historical Commissioner
The City of Lacey accepts application packets from citizens interested in serving on the Historical Commission on a continuous basis, whether or not there is a current opening. Application packets are kept on file for a period of one year from date of receipt and are considered each time a position becomes available. Applicants may be contacted by the Mayor to discuss the responsibilities of the position and interest in serving. The full City Council affirms citizen board and commission appointments based on the recommendation of the Mayor.
Applicants with a variety of skills, interests and experiences are encouraged to apply.
General members of the Historical Commission must reside within the City of Lacey or the Lacey Urban Growth Area (UGA). Professional-member exceptions to this requirement can be granted by the Mayor and City Council.
At least two members of the commission must be professionals in the disciplines of history, architecture, architectural history, historic preservation, planning, cultural anthropology, archaeology, cultural geography, or American studies, and have experience in evaluating historic resources.
Members must be able to commit to monthly commission meetings, occasional joint planning sessions, and required preparation time.
TERMS OF OFFICE
Historical Commissioners serve 3-year terms with a 2-term service limit.
All commission members serve in a volunteer capacity.
